The object gets a list of companies that are either upgraded or downgraded by analysts for the current trading day. Analysts working for brokerage firms track the performance of thousands of U.S. companies. An analyst upgrades a company if he/she thinks that the company stock price is underpriced, and downgrades a company if he/she thinks that the company stock price is overpriced and that its stock share may decline in the near future. Depending on the analyst's recommendation, the target price and the influence of the analyst, a stock share price can increase or decrease sharply. Several analysts are followed and watched by institutional, this tends to drive stock prices up or down even sharper when these analysts announce their recommendation changes.

The Downgrades Upgrades database contains four fields:
Date: The date on which the analyst recommendation was initiated
Upgrade: This field gets a value of one if the analyst recommendation is an upgrade.
Downgrade: This field gets a value of one if the analyst recommendation is a downgrade.
Recommendation: The average analysts' recommendation for the current stock. The average recommendation value varies between 1 and 5. A value of one means that analysts released "Strong Buy" recommendations, while a value of five means that all analysts released "Strong Sell" recommendations.

Strong Buy: 1
Buy: 2
Hold: 3
Sell: 4
Strong Sell: 1

Example:
On 12 April 2010, EchoStar Corp (SATS) has an average recommendation of 4.5, which means that most analysts recommend selling the stock.
TELUS Corporation (TU) has an average recommendation of 2, which is bullish for the stock.

Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
