New features in QuantShare - Trading Software

Updated on 2010-03-17

Yesterday, we released a new version of QuantShare. This new version (1.7.1) fixes several bugs, adds several minor features and one new plug-in.

We will first describe some of the minor features we have added and then introduce the major feature we have implemented, the Portfolio Plug-in.

Data Download:
The trading software now offers two new ways to download quotes or any other data. You can now download historical data for specific symbols quickly within the Watchlist plug-in. You just need to select one or several symbols and then right-click to display a menu. This menu includes four new items; two of these items are related to the downloading process. You can download quotes for the selected symbols or for all the symbols that are available in your account.
In the "Database View" form, which can be accessed by selecting "Tools" in the menu, then clicking on "Database Data", we have added a "download" button. This button allows you to download historical data for the selected database. Before using this feature, you should have at least one database. Just a quick reminder that databases can be created manually or using the "Download" objects, which are available in the trading software' sharing server. For example: Individual Stocks Put and Call Volume object creates a put/call database; Short Selling Data object creates a short selling database.

Trading Systems:
You can now associate more than one money management script to trading systems. On the "create/update trading strategy" form, and after clicking on the "Money Management" icon, you will now be presented with a new money management control. This control allows you to manage the money management scripts of the trading system, create new ones, update the input fields, optimize these fields...
Money management scripting feature requires some programming language knowledge. Currently, these scripts cannot be shared, but we plan to enable the sharing feature in the next release, and thus let you download ready-to-use money management scripts.

Custom Indicators:
The "Custom Function" plug-in, which allows you to create custom vector-based functions and indicators, has now a new method (SetParameter) that lets you to insert vectors or arrays in a QuantShare formula before it is compiled.

Portfolio Plug-in:
The Portfolio plug-in is the perfect tool to create portfolios, track your positions and generate orders from a trading system.
When you create a new portfolio, you have the ability to choose whether to create a simple portfolio or a strategy-based portfolio. The former lets you add orders, track your stocks/options/currencies/futures securities as well as the portfolio return, drawdown, available cash and margin.... In addition to these basic features, the strategy-based portfolio, which is created by associating a simple portfolio with a trading strategy or trading system, generates orders (buy/sell/short/cover signals) based on the strategy rules, current available positions, current cash... of the portfolio.

Portfolio - Trading Software

In order to generate orders based on a trading strategy, you just need to click on the "Rebalance" button (The "Rebalance Date" is automatically set to the last quote date).

Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
