Ticker Symbol Index

The "SymbolIndex" function reads a list of ticker symbols stored under a file and gets the index of a specified symbol (entered by you) from the list. It then returns "1" if the index is the same as the index you entered manually.

Example of usage:

List of ticker symbols: (One symbol per line)
A
AA
AAPL
C
MSFT
X

Your formulas:

a = SymbolIndex("AA", 1); // Returns "1" because "AA" is located at index 1
a = SymbolIndex("AAPL", 3); // Returns "0" because "AAPL" is located at index 3
a = SymbolIndex("TEST", 3); // Returns "0" because "TEST" cannot be found in the list

Here is a concrete example that shows you how to use this trading indicator to create an individual stock backtester:

Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
