Hello,
So I've been trying to fire up my lifetime licensed Quantshare recently but
not having any luck as it cannot connect to the license server. Tried with
and without VPN, also tried the backup server. I do have an older version
of the software (v3.4.1). Any ideas?
Thanks,
Kyra

Thank you. I'm relieved to hear that the license server itself is up and running.
The fact that you've got a newer version does suggest that my (quite old)
copy has become unsupported somehow. Unfortunately the error message
simply says "Cannot connect to the server, please try again.", so not much
help there.

So ... What is working and not working???
How can a newbie trust that this is still supported and works???
All I need is to download EoD for ETFs in Metastock format.

As you can see some other folks have said newer versions are working, so it could just be my old version got silently (or accidentally) unsupported.
It's more worrying that we haven't seen a post from the user "Quantshare" in a very long time. He used to administer the board / provide support. My guess is that this is that the software is no longer supported. Given that, who knows how long they will pay to run the license server? I couldn't recommend someone buy this at this point.
It's a shame, too... after all of these years Quantshare still (STILL) does certain things better than any other commercial package I have tried. I would be willing to pay (again) for a modernized and well supported version.

Hi Kyra
Yes somewhat concerning. Did you try emailing support directly? I guess also with Quantshare, I'm so used to the package and the fact I can easily write my own functions in c# to test my ideas, does any other package offer this option? (I haven't looked into whats currently on offer now)
And yes once the licence server goes so does Quantshare.

@kyra.
"we haven't seen a post from the user "Quantshare" in a very long time. He used to administer the board / provide support. My guess is that this is that the software is no longer supported. "
that's the downfall when you buy a lifetime version of software and pay UP FRONT. unless the software developer keeps selling it month after month, year after year, there eventually becomes little to no incentive to maintain it. my guess is this software isn't selling anymore so the developer isn't willing to put much time into maintaining it.
but, it's still great value for what you pay. your just taking a big risk to buy it if you don't know how to do some Jscript or C# programming. because a function you desperatley need (that comes from a trading object you downloaded) could stop working. and depending on what function it is, it might make the software worthless for you from that point forward.
congratulation to all the programmers out there that can take advantage of quantshare's open code.
just my two cents

Hey Dave,
Other retail options for C# include Ninjatrader, Multicharts, Quantconnect (web), cTrader, and others if you're willing to jump through some hoops. I didn't think any of them matched Quantshare's unique combination of ease of use and breadth of capability. I rebased my stack on bespoke python a while back so I haven't checked in on them in some time, though. Maybe they've gotten better, or there's something new and interesting out there?
Every once in a while I do miss jumping into Quantshare and bashing around a few new ideas, though. It's really great for that.
