HI all,

there's a few very old threads regarding importation of sectors , the finviz downloader was the answer to one, however if you don't have a finviz premium account
then the downloader cant work.

I'm importing my own data from metastock, I also have data from AAII's SIPro which provides me with symbol, fullname, industry , sector ,market

Using symbol-> import symbols from a file
So far I can import everything except the sector .
I would like to map the industries to a sector and preferably not doing it by hand via symbol->categories->sector

Can anyone help with a downloader which can import a CSV file containing a column representing sectors ?
so this is what my csv looks like

|symbol|fullname|industry|sector|market|

so as previously stated, its the sector info I cant import as there is no sector field in the dbase for me to map the column to

Hi Ivan,

Unfortunately, there is no way to import the sector directly. You can either use "Tools -> Script Editor" or do it manually by associating an industry to a sector (not a ticker to a sector) in "Symbol -> Categories".

Facing the same issue from time to time...

How would you use the script editor to update the sectors? An example would be great.

Use "Symbols.AddSector" to add a sector.
Use "Symbols.AddIndustry" to add an industry and associate it with a sector.
