Average Price

Share |

The average price or average price per share calculates the average cost per share of an investment. If you buy 10 shares of a stock at 20$ then buy again 20 shares at 25$ then the average price will be the sum of your purchases (10 * 20$ + 20 * 25$) divided by the total number of shares you own (10 + 20). In this example, the average price or average price per share is 23.33$.

In technical analysis, the average price also refers to a measure that is calculated by summing the high and low prices for a given bar and then dividing the result by two.

Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
