Share |

AMEX is an acronym for American Stock Exchange. The AMEX is an American stock exchange located in New York. The exchange was bought by the NYSE Euronext on October 1, 2008. After the acquisition of NYSE Euronext, the exchange was announced to be integrated with AlterNet European small-cap exchange and renamed to NYSE AlterNet U.S.
Finally, in March 2009, NYSE AlterNet U.S. (AMEX) was renamed again to NYSE Amex Equities.

AMEX produces several stock market indices. The AMEX composite is the most popular; it is a value-weighted index that tracks the performance of all AMEX-listed stocks.
