The India stock market has two main stock exchanges:
- The Bombay/Mumbai Stock Exchange Limited (BSE) is the oldest stock exchange in Asia and lists more companies that any other exchange in the World. The BSE's main index is the BSE SENSEX, also called (BSE 30). It is a value-weighted index composed of the 30 largest and most active stocks trading on the BSE.
- The National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) is the largest stock exchange in India in terms of number of trades and daily turnover. The NSE's main index is the S&P CNX Nifty, also known as Nifty; it is an index of fifty major stocks weighted by market capitalization.
